Abstract

Students habits like lazy learning such as loss of interest, enthusiasm, and motivation to learn indicate low character happy to learn. The purpose of this study is to foster the character of love to learn in grade 1 students. The method used is ADDIE type Research and Development (R&D) with the help of five certified elementary school teachers as respondents to the needs analysis as well as expert judgment and eight grade 1 students as limited subjects. The research obtained the results of 1) product development in the form of digital comic media through the ADDIE stage, 2) the quality of products in the category "Very good" score obtained 3.86 (scale 1-4) recommended for "No revision needed", and 3) the application of products affects characters who like to learn. The result of the significance test through paired samples t test is the mean posttest score (M = 3.6625, SE = 0.04978) higher than the pretest (M = 2.1875, SE = 0.07425). The result is considered significant because t(7) = 20.322, p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). Since the result obtained p is less than 0.05, H0 is rejected, meaning the product has an effect. Furthermore, the effect size test reaped the results r = 0.9916, the criterion of "Large effect", with a percentage of 98.33%. Based on the calculation of the N-gain score, it shows that 81.42% are in the "High" category. Thus, digital comic products are effective for cultivating and improving characters happy to learn for grade 1 students.
