Vocational education has an urgency in preparing students to meet the needs of employment in certain fields according to outcomes or have the ability to be independent entrepreneurs and have high competitiveness. The objectives of this article are (1) to describe the basic competencies, these competencies, and the realization of knowledge and skills in the concentration of Visual Communication Design skills in Vocational High Schools. (2) Analyzing rationalization through in- depth study of the competencies specified in the curriculum on the concentration of Visual Communication Design skills in SMK. The research method used is literacy studies through field studies, policy source studies, recent literature reviews with a qualitative descriptive approach. Collect field data and evaluate a number of vocational education policies, and analyze by reviewing phenomena through literature studies. The results of this study suggest: (1) Presentation of the results of the analysis related to basic competencies, these competencies, and the realization of knowledge and skills in the concentration of Visual Communication Design skills in Vocational High Schools. So that SMKs are able to produce graduate profiles that are creative, innovative, and meet qualification standards in the Business and Industrial World (DUDI). (2) The results of a comprehensive analysis regarding the rationalization of a number of competencies specified in the curriculum in the concentration of Visual Communication Design skills in SMK. However, it is more than that that vocational education providers in VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS do not only transfer knowledge but are required to transform knowledge and skills based on competency suitability, especially in the field of Visual Communication Design expertise.
